WE HAVE A NEW DENTIST
Dr. Nick Boyd
As many of you are aware, our father, Dr. Valentine R. Bauer passed away a few weeks ago. We want to let you know how very grateful we are for the outpouring of support we have received during this extremely difficult time. Our entire family has been deeply touched by your kind words, cards, flowers, prayers and tributes made in his memory. While we miss Dad terribly, we are comforted by your kindness and clear admiration for him.
When Dad started his dentistry practice in the Cape St. Clair Shopping Center, he began with the belief in doing what is right for his patient, providing incredible care and building strong relationships with patients, staff and the local community. Over the last 35 years, as his practice grew and moved, he maintained his commitment to providing excellent dental care and always felt so blessed to be surrounded by his dental family each and every day.
We have been so fortunate over the last few weeks to have Dad’s colleagues and friends step in and meet with patients as we took the time to find the best person to permanently step into Dad’s shoes at the office. As we have met with local Dentists and considered our options, we focused on finding someone who would carry on Dad’s values and commitment to care for his patients and staff. We are pleased to share with you and we have found that person in Dr. Nicholas Boyd.
We were surprised and overjoyed to find someone who really is so much like Dad. Not only is Dr. Boyd also a graduate of the University of Maryland Dental School, more importantly, he is just as committed to family and community as our Dad was. He and Alli have four children, Camden, London, Alice, and Hudson and have been serving the local for the last several years. Also like Dad, Dr. Boyd always knew he wanted to find a community to set down roots and start his own practice committed to high quality dental care. We have the utmost confidence that he will continue our father’s wonderful legacy of providing excellent dental care in a warm and caring environment.
Our families all plan to continue our dental care with Dr. Boyd and hope you will say hi or share a memory of Dad if you see us in the office!
So please know that the next time you visit, you’ll be greeted by the same smiling faces and receive the wonderful care you are accustomed to receiving. We know our Dad is smiling down on the new Dr. B and cheering on his fellow Terrapin.
With all of our gratitude,
Drew Bauer Kristen Bauer Zaks Greg Bauer
I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to continue providing excellent care for Dr. Bauer’s patients. I was touched and impressed as I read Dr. Bauer’s obituary and the many notes left by patients. I understand these are difficult circumstances with the passing of Dr. B. I didn't know him personally but have learned a lot about him over the past few weeks. I admire the way his patients were loyal to him over the years and hope to be able to foster a similar trust and love in the future serving you. One of the first things that jumped out to me when I walked through the office for the first time was the family atmosphere. Family is a huge part of my life, and I hope to continue to provide the same family environment in the future.
I have been married to my amazing wife Alli for 11 years and we have 4 energetic children. Our oldest, Camden, is 9 and loves anything and everything to do with sports, London our 7 year old is sweet as sugar and the nicest big sister you could ask for. Alice is our goofy 5 year old who always keeps us laughing. Hudson is 1 and melts all our hearts with his smiles. My hobbies include spending time with my family, sports & hiking, attending and serving in my church, and coaching my son’s little league baseball, basketball and soccer teams.
I was born and raised in the area and attended South River High school. Many years later I graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. My grandparents lived in Eastport for most of my childhood. Storm Bros. ice cream and a walk down the Annapolis docks are our favorite family date night. I love the beauty of this area and the people are always welcoming and kind.
I am passionate about improving the lives of my patients. That includes doing my best to help avoid cavities and tooth pain. I also find it very rewarding to help diagnose and treat sleep apnea.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
Dr. Nick Boyd
One of the most important aspects of your overall oral health is keeping your teeth and gums clean and strong. To help in this effort, we provide dental cleanings and exams for your entire family. The goal of dental cleanings and exams is to provide preventive measures to stop tooth decay before it emerges while also beginning any necessary treatment planning.
When decay occurs to your tooth enamel, our dentists will likely use a dental filling to repair the damage. Dental fillings are dental restorations made from a variety of materials; they are directly applied to the surface of your tooth to fill in the empty spaces left once decay is removed.
Snoring is a very common problem. Not only does it affect the sleep of the person snoring, it also affects the bed partner. Did you know that snoring could be a sign of something more? Under diagnosed and frequently dismissed simply as harmless, yet annoying snoring, "Obstructive Sleep Apnea" (OSA) is a very dangerous condition.
If you or a loved one snore loudly at night, please have a sleep study done to rule out this potentially fatal condition. Please contact us to help guide you.
Dental crowns are a common type of dental restoration used to restore both the functionality and beauty of a damaged tooth. Tooth-shaped caps, dental crowns completely encase a tooth up to the gum line. Our dentists work hard to guarantee each dental crown fits properly and looks natural with the rest of your smile.
If you are embarrassed to smile because of multiple dental flaws, or if you are simply looking for a more permanent restoration, Dr. Boyd may suggest porcelain veneers. Veneers are wafer-thin shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth to perfect the shape, color, size, and alignment of a damaged or decayed tooth. Made from porcelain, which is tough, translucent, and stain resistant, veneers are ideal for our patients looking to make more dramatic changes to their smiles.
If you are missing one or more teeth, Dr. Boyd may recommend you consider dental bridges. A dental bridge is a permanent dental restoration ideal for replacing a single tooth or multiple teeth that are missing in a row.

A toothache is a pain in or around a tooth that may be caused by:
A damaged filling
Repetitive motions, such as chewing gum or grinding teeth
Call us as soon as possible about your toothache if:
You have a toothache that lasts longer than 1 or 2 days
Your toothache is severe
You have a fever, earache, or pain upon opening your mouth wide
Proper identification and treatment of dental infections prevents its spreading to other parts of the face and skull and possibly even to the bloodstream.
Located on either side of your ears, directly in front of your ears, is the temporomandibular joint, also known as the TMJ. Your TMJ is responsible for allowing your jaw to move smoothly, helping you eat, chew, speak, laugh, and yawn comfortably. However, some circumstances arise where the TMJ becomes stressed or strained, causing pain and discomfort. Many people with damage to the TMJ experience:
A stuck or locked jaw
Clicking, popping, or grating noises when moving the jaw
Facial pain, swelling, or tenderness
Difficulty opening your mouth wide
There are many different ways to treat the TMJ based on your individual situation and the severity of your case. Care methods at home, such as ice and medication, are often effective. Other cases require the use of dental devices, such as splints or mouth guards. For more serious damage, surgery may also be recommended.
Dr. Boyd understands that many of our patients who have experienced tooth loss are hesitant about committing to extensive treatments that require surgery or reshaping your teeth. If you are looking for a more affordable, non-invasive method for replacing teeth, Dr. Boyd may suggest dentures. What are Dentures? Dentures are removable prosthetic teeth that are ideal for replacing most or all of your smile. We offer many different types of dentures, including full dentures and partial dentures.
We understand that many of our patients experience fear or anxiety when they think about visiting the dentist. We never want anyone to put off getting the treatment they need because of dental phobia. To ensure you always have a positive experience when you come to see us, we provide high-quality sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry includes all of the methods that we use to help you feel relaxed and free of pain during your treatment.
